Joao Cancelo Handed New Shirt Number Ahead Of New Season.
After Raheem Sterling left, the Portuguese full-back changed his squad number from 27 to his new number, which he will wear for the upcoming season.
Cancelo joined City from Juventus in 2019, and in his three years there, he has made 128 appearances and scored eight goals.
At Valencia and Inter Milan, he wore the No. 7 jersey; for Benfica, he wore the No. 70 jersey.
The No. 7 jersey has previously been worn by a lot of fan favorites.
Along with Sterling, notable figures like Robbie Fowler, Georgi Kinkladze, Stephen Ireland, David White, Peter Barnes, and Mike Summerbee also opted for that squad number while playing at City.
Additionally, the fact that Cancelo was handed a shirt often reserved for a winger fits with his adaptable attacking approach.
