Chelsea Confirms The Signing Of Raheem Sterling From Man City.

Chelsea have on Wednesday completed the signing of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.

The Blues paid a fee said to be £47.5m, with minor add-ons that could take it to £50m. 

Sterling posted a goodbye message to City fans on social media before signing a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge worth £310,000-a-week, that reportedly makes him the highest (current) earner at Chelsea.

He becomes Chelsea's first addition to Thomas Tuchel's first team squad following the takeover of the club by new owner Todd Boehly.

The England international flew out to Los Angeles ahead of the announcement, having completed his medical in London over the weekend.

The 27-year-old came up through the QPR and Liverpool academies before making his senior debut at age 17, which made him the third youngest player to ever play for Liverpool. 

He further joined Manchester City in 2015 for £44m (plus bonuses), a record fee for an English player at the time. In the seven season since, he’s amassed 131 goals in 339 appearances across all competitions, winning 4 Premier League titles, 1 FA Cup, 4 League Cups, and 0 Champions League trophies.

Following the announcement, Sterling said: "First and foremost, it's a pleasure to be here. I've obviously achieved a lot in my career so far, but there is still so much more to achieve, and I'm really looking forward to doing that in a Chelsea shirt under Thomas's management.

"London is my home and where it all started for me, and it's amazing I now have the opportunity to play in front of friends and family week in, week out at Stamford Bridge. I'm really looking forward to meeting the fans there soon.

"I can't wait to get going now and continue to do my talking on the pitch."

On the international stage, Sterling has become a regular for Gareth Southgate with 77 England caps and 19 goals, including three at Euro 2020 final where he helped the Three Lions reach the final at Wembley.

Chelsea beat plenty of competition from Premier League rivals, including Tottenham, Arsenal and former club Liverpool to secure Sterling's signature. 

He's expected to join his new teammates in training for the first time on Wednesday in Los Angeles after his move was officially confirmed by the club.
