Arsenal Confirm The Permanent Sale Of Matteo Guendouzi To Marseille.

Following a fruitful loan spell with the Ligue 1 side, Matteo Guendouzi has officially signed with Olympique Marseille on a permanent basis, according to an announcement from Arsenal.

The 23-year-old participated in all 55 of Marseille's matches last season as the team earned a spot in the Champions League, and the French club used a stipulation in the contract to turn the agreement into a full-time one.

According to the club website, "Everyone at Arsenal thanks Matteo for his contribution throughout his time with us and wishes him the best in this next chapter of his career."

Marseille reportedly paid almost £9 million for the French midfielder.

Guendouzi joined Arsenal from Lorient in July 2018 for a reported £8 million deal, and from that time until June 2020, he made 82 appearances for the club.

He never played for Arsenal again after a post-match fight with Brighton's Neal Maupay during a 2-1 loss, putting an end to his tenure in north London.

The Frenchman helped the team finish second behind PSG and showed he was a terrific fit for Ligue 1 football.

His hiring was announced on the same day Jorge Sampaoli announced his resignation as manager of Marseille following a disagreement over the team's long-term plans.
