Zidane Headbutt Statue To Be Reinstalled In Qatar Ahead Of The 2022 FIFA World Cup.

A controversial statue immortalising Zinedine Zidane's headbutt during the 2006 World Cup final, will be finally re-installed in Qatar ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament.

The artwork created by Algerian-born French artist Adel Abdessemed, depicts the second throughout additional time within the 2006 World Cup final game in Berlin when Zidane who had scored a delicious Panenka penalty earlier on, was sent off for headbutting Italian defender Marco Materazzi.

The 16-foot bronze art work known as “Coup de Tête” was initially removed in less than four weeks after being on display in 2013 amid serious backlash from the public and being criticised for promoting violence.

According to sources, It also provoked criticism from folks for its alleged promotion of idolatry, which is frowned upon in many Muslim nations.

The artwork will now re-emerge after nine years following a reversed decision from Qatari authorities.

While the statue has now come back, its location has been changed.

Instead of being on public view, which Al-Thani conceded was "not right", it will now be displayed at the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum as a reflection of high level sports and the impact it has on mental health and stress.

Qatar is set to welcome the rest of the world to the country later this year for the biggest sporting event scheduled to begin from November 21, to December 18.
