Son Heung-min Awarded South Korea's Highest sporting Honour By President Yoon Suk-yeol.

Son Heung-min has been awarded South Korea's highest sporting honour, the Cheongnyong Medal, for his football achievements.

The Chongnyoung Medal is the highest of five sporting merit awards in Korea, and the Tottenham's forward had it presented to him personally by South Korean president Yoon Suk-yeol on Thursday just before South Korea's friendly against Brazil at Seoul World Cup Stadium. 

Son dressed in a dark suit, walked into the packed stadium as the crowd cheered, with a banner reading: "We are living in the era of world-class Son Heung-min."

Spectators roared as the president clipped the medal on Son's chest. This itself is also unusual, the Cheongnyong Medal is usually bestowed by the Minister of Culture, but President Yoon opted to award it to Sonny personally.

Son had a sterling and sensational season, which saw him wrap his scoring with a brace against Norwich on the Premier League last day round of matches to be the first player to get to 23 goals, and become the League top scorer, but was later joined shortly by Liverpool's Mo Salah who also finished with same goals. 

The 29-year-old made history by became the first Asian player to win the Premier League Golden Boot. He scored all his 23 goals be without a single penalty involved (12 left-footed goals, and 11 right-footed goals), creating 7 assists in the process in 34 games.

According to World Soccer Talk, the Previous recipients of the medal include two-time Olympic gold medallist figure skater Yuna Kim and golfer Pak Se-ri.

The reports also added that Yoon had congratulated Son for his sporting achievement on Facebook, calling it a "joyous occasion to be celebrated by the entire Asian football community".

Despite not making it to the not shortlist for PFA Player of the Year released earlier this week, Son Heung-min 23 non-penalty goals in the just concluded 2021-22 Premier League season, is five more than any other player:

15 - Diogo Jota, Kevin de Bruyne, Jarmie Vardy, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Antonio Conte's men who are set to play Champions League football next season, are planning a preseason tour to Korea in July where they will play matches against Sevilla, as well as a team of Korean all-stars.
