OFFICIAL: Benfica Confirms The Transfer Of Darwin Nunez To Liverpool.
Benfica have released a statement confirming they have reached an agreement with Liverpool for the transfer of Darwin Núñez with an announcement from the Merseyside club now imminent.
Liverpool will pay an initial €75 million (£64 million), plus €25 million in add-ons, according to the Portuguese club, who confirmed the deal in the early hours of Monday morning.
"Sport Lisboa e Benfica - Futebol, SAD informed the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) that it had reached an agreement with Liverpool FC for the sale of all rights to the player Darwin Nuez, for the sum of 75 million euros," Benfica said in a statement.
'The deal provides for the payment of a variable remuneration, therefore the global value of the sale might reach the amount of 100 million euros.'
Benfica purchased Nuñez from Almeria in the summer of 2020 for 24 million euros and the Spanish club is reportedly set to receive 20% of any profit from his transfer.
."It is also clarified in the official document that the aforementioned agreement is conditional on the signing of the player's sports employment contract with Liverpool FC."
When this deal is completed, it will surpass Liverpool's previous transfer record of £75 million for Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in January 2018.

The transfer is conditional on the 22-year-old Uruguayan agreeing personal terms with Liverpool until 2028, and passing a medical, both of which are likely to take place on Monday.
Julian Ward, Liverpool's director of football, was in Portugal to finalize the transfer while negotiating the terms of the agreement.
Nuñez was the top scorer in Portugal’s top flight in the 2021-22 season and scored 34 goals in all competitions for Benfica, including goals in both legs of the club’s Champions League quarter-final defeat to Liverpool in April.
On the other hand, Jürgen Klopp's men finished the 2021-22 season winning the FA Cup and League Cup titles, but came second in the Premier League after losing the title on last day, and they also lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid in Paris.
Núñez ability to play out wide and through the middle would make him the ideal replacement for Sadio Mane, who has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich.
