JUST IN: Carlos Tevez Announces His Retirement From Football After Father's Death.

Former West Ham, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Argentina striker Carlos Tevez has announced his retirement from football at age of 38.

Tevez hasn't played professional football since leaving hometown, ending his third stint with boyhood club Boca Juniors in June 2021.

He credits the death of his father in February of last year as a major influence in his decision to retire, after "given everything" in his 20-year career, and despite having offers to continue, including in MLS.

Segundo Tevez died aged 58 in February 2021 after he contracted Covid-19.

"I stopped playing because I lost my number one fan," he told America TV on Friday night.

"I have retired, it is confirmed. They offered me many things, including from the United States. But that's it, I have given everything.

"Playing the last year was very difficult but I was able to see my old man." "I quit performing because I had lost my biggest admirer.

"As a player I gave everything I had in my heart, that gives me peace.

"I woke up one day and said 'I'm not playing any more', I called my agent and told him."

In the same discussion, Tevez confirmed his intentions to stay in football in a coaching capacity.

"I'm going to be a coach, I've made the decision that I'm going to coach," Tevez said.

"I'm working with [Carlos] Chapa Retegui, I have a project that I've been working on with my brothers for several months.

"I'm very enthusiastic, I'm really hooked."

Starting his career at Boca Juniors, he made his debut at the age of 16 and won the Copa Libertadores in 2003, before moving to Corinthians two years later.

Tevez spent two seasons in Brazil before moving to the Premier League from 2006 until 2013 with West Ham, Manchester United and Manchester City.

He was important in keeping West Ham United from relegation in the 2006/07 season.

Man United later secured his services on a two-year loan, which was highly productive, and along with Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo, he formed the Premier League best ever front three that helped United to win the League titles in 2008 and 2009, while he also helped Sir Alex Ferguson's side lift the Champions League and Club World Cup in 2008, as well as the League Cup in 2009.

He scored 34 goals in 99 games for United and was offered the chance to remain at Old Trafford permanently, but turned down the deal in other to complete a shock move to bitter rivals Man City in 2009.

City were embarking on an ambitious recruitment drive after Sheikh Mansour's takeover a year earlier. 

Tevez was the club's talisman in the years following the takeover, scoring 29 goals in his debut season and went on to win the Premier League Golden Boot the following season while captaining Roberto Mancini's side to FA Cup victory, ending the Club's 35-year trophy drought.

He even played in the famous 3-2 win over QPR that secured the club's first ever Premier League title in 2012, and went on to make 148 appearances for the club, scoring 74 goals, in his four seasons stay with City between 2009 and 2013.

He eventually left the club in June 2013 when he signed a three-year contract with Juventus, scoring 50 goals in 95 appearances for the club. He won the Serie A twice, Coppa Italia, and Supercoppa Italiana in his two seasons stay, before returning back to Boca Juniors in 2015.

In 2004, he won Olympic gold with Argentina in Athens, going on to make 75 appearances for his country by 2015.
