Toothless Three Lions Of England Lose Disgracefully To Hungary In Crucial Nations League Encounter.

 On Tuesday night, England were humiliated 4-0 by Hungary, capping a disappointing run of Nations League matches for Gareth Southgate's side.

Hungary becomes the first team to score four goals in an away match against England since the Hungarians themselves won 6-3 at Wembley in November 1953.

Just 10-days ago, Hungary secured their first win over England for 60 years in Budapest.

A double from Roland Sallai and late goals from Adam Nagy and Daniel Gazdag kept Hungary on course to reach the Nations League finals next year.

In the first half of the encounter at the Molineux 'the home of Wolves', the Three Lions dominated possession but were frustrated by Hungary's strong press, which disrupted their play, and a defensive slip was ruthlessly punished, leaving them behind at halftime.

After some wonderful combination play on the left flank by Harry Kane and Reece James, England's clearest opening came just six minutes in. Jarrod Bowen was unmarked at the back post when the latter's deep cross reached him, but the West Ham attacker's close-range header was a complete disaster.

In the 16th minute, the hosts fell behind after failing to deal with a free-kick delivery. The ball was allowed to reach Roland Sallai, who controlled it on his thigh before slamming the ball over Aaron Ramsdale's outstretched arm.

Reece James was on hand to clear off the line shortly before the half-hour mark when Dominik Szoboszlai curled in a wicked free kick from close to the corner flag.

Just a minute later, John Stones missed a free header from a corner, and Hungary goalkeeper Denes Dibusz was finally brought into action when teammate Willi Orban headed Bukayo Saka's dangerous cross back into his own net.

In the second half, England switched to three at the back but were comfortably kept at bay by the visitors, who were wonderfully clinical in delivering two sucker punches on the break.

Phillips mis-controlled in his own half with 20 minutes left, and replacement Martin Adam pounced, laying it off for Sallai to prod a toe punt through Ramsdale's legs.

It was sent beyond them entirely after Kane hit the crossbar as England battled to get back into the contest. Hungary broke through once more, and the ball ultimately found its way to wing-back Zsolt Nagy on the edge of the box, where he blasted an accurate shot into the net.

Things proceeded from bad to worse two minutes later, when John Stones was issued his marching orders for a second bookable offense. In the final minute, England's humiliation was completed by substitute Daniel Gazdag, who ran through and dinked a cute finish over Ramsdale.

The result is England's worst home defeat since 1928, and it leaves them rooted to the bottom of Group A3 of the Nations League.

They are three points adrift at the bottom of the section and need a massive turnaround in September away to Italy and home to Germany to avoid relegation.
