Chelsea Target Christopher Nkunku Extends Contract With RB Leipzig.
Following a breakout campaign that caught the eye of some of Europe's finest clubs, France attacker Christopher Nkunku extended his contract with Leipzig through 2026 on Thursday.
He has a €60m release clause that will come into effect next summer.
Following the renewal of Nkunku's contract, which had two more years remaining, Leipzig technical director Christopher Vivell referred to him as "one of the best players in the world."
Nkunku, 24, was awarded the Bundesliga player of the year after helping Leipzig win the German Cup and scoring 20 goals in the league during the previous campaign. He also made his international debut for France in March and has participated in each of the six matches since.
Nkunku said in a statement that "RB Leipzig have established themselves on the world stage in recent years and have repeatedly demonstrated that we can fight for titles." Going forward, we want to expand on that and take it a step further.
As a result of Nkunku's performances for Leipzig and France, there was talk that he would join the Premier League or go back to Paris Saint-Germain, where he first played after graduating from the club's youth and remained until his 2019 transfer to Leipzig.
