Liverpool arrived into Paris as the heavy favourites, yet as difficulties outside the ground engulfed the Reds' traveling support, Fans were filmed being tear gassed and pepper sprayed as the situation became dangerous and very scary for all those involved.
The Premier League giants failed to find their usual rhythm, despite having the best of the first-half, controlling much of the ball and creating chances with six attempts on goal during the opening 22 minutes, forcing Courtois to make two top saves from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in the process.
Los Blancos thought they had scored the opening goal in the final minute of the first-half when Karim Benzema took advantage of a mix-up between Alisson Becker and Ibrahima Konate. The Frenchman rolled the ball into an empty net.
The initial goal stood but following a lengthy VAR review, it was cancelled for offside.
In a repeat of the 2018 Champions League final, where Real Madrid won 3-1 in Kiev, it was Vinicius Jr only goal in the 59th minute that made the difference in Paris.
