Mikel Arteta Signs New Contract As Arsenal Manager Alongside Women's Boss Jonas Eidevall.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has signed a two-year contract extension with the club keeping him at the Emirates Stadium until the end of the 2024-25 season. 

Following his appointment in December 2019, Arteta has guided the Gunners back into Champions League contention this season after taking only half a season to win his first trophy in North London in the form of the 2019-20 FA Cup, as well as the 2020 Community Shield.

Arsenal are currently two points ahead of north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the race for top four. There are difficult games ahead, however, especially as the Gunners have to play Spurs at their ground on May 12 in what is arguably the biggest North London Derby in years.

The 40-year-old's exploits at the Emirates led to links with the Barcelona job before Xavi's appointment, while Manchester City were rumoured to have identified their former coach as Pep Guardiola's possible successor.

However, the Spaniard whose initial contract was set to come to an end in the summer of 2023, but has now committed his future to Arsenal for the next three years: "I'm excited, grateful and really, really happy today... He told the club's website.

"When I spoke to Josh Kroenke he could see the club at the same point and he wanted to take the club the way I wanted to do it. So everything that he's said, and that Stan Kroenke has said when I've been together with both of them, they've always delivered.

"We want to take the club to the next level and to compete really with the top teams. In order to do that, we have to be playing in the Champions League.

"We have to be able to evolve the team, improve our players, improve all departments, generate even more connection with our fans, improve the atmosphere at the Emirates, be able to recruit top, top talent and the best people for this club to drive this project to that level."

Meanwhile, Arsenal also extended the club's women boss Jonas Eidevall contract.

The Swede joined the London club last summer and his contract extension takes him to the end of the 2023-24 season.

With just his first season at the helm, Eidevall's side are in contention for Women's Super League title going into the final game on Sunday, with the Gunners one point behind leaders Chelsea.

Arsenal takes on West Ham United and needs to better the Blues' result against Manchester United.

Eidevall's side also advanced to the quarter-finals of the Women's Champions League before being eliminated by Wolfsburg, while they were defeated by Chelsea in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Speaking about his new deal to arsenal.com, the 39-year-old said: "It's great, It allows me to continue to work for a club that I love so much and be around people that I really, really like, and to be able to achieve things together, so I'm really looking forward to that."

Arsenal announced this new development at the club through an official press statement on the club's website on Friday morning.

"We are delighted to announce that Mikel Arteta and Jonas Eidevall have signed new contracts with the club.

"We marked the moment with a unique double signing at Emirates Stadium."
