Kylian Mbappe Wins The 2021/22 Ligue 1 Player Of The Year And Reveals Future Plans.

PSG striker Kylian Mbappe has won the Ligue 1 player of the Season award for a third year and second-consecutive season on Sunday (2019, 2021, 2022).

The 23-year-old enjoyed an exceptional season in France's top flight this season, bagging 25 goals and providing 17 assists as PSG clinched yet another league title.

He emerged winner of the award seeing off competitions from from Rennes Martin Terrier, Wissam Ben Yedder of Monaco, Marseille's Dimitri Payet and Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta.

During the ceremony in Paris, Mbappe was presented with the award by French legend Thierry Henry, as offered a new update on his highly anticipated future plans this month.

The Real Madrid transfer target spoke about his future with the club.

"I made the mistake three years ago of taking over the ceremony"... as per reports from Marca.

I want to participate in the ceremony, no look for glory," Mbappe said. 

"We will know very soon, it's almost done. My decision is made, yes, almost."

Mbappe is referring to the 2019 ceremony when he made some comments that made waves. He basically stated that he would rather have more responsibility at another club.

"I think it's time I have more responsibility," Mbappe said. "Maybe I'll be happy in Paris, but maybe somewhere else, with a new project, too."

According to reports, Mbappe is yet to make a final decision over his next move, with PSG’s renewal balanced against a new challenge in Madrid.

However, as the speculation continues to intensify, Mbappe confirmed he is almost certain over where he will be playing next season.

His mother had also vehemently denied recent reports that her son has agreed on a contract extension in principle to remain with PSG. 

It has been widely expected that Mbappe would join Real Madrid on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Neither party is expected to make an announcement until June, with PSG wrapping up their domestic campaign, and Real Madrid getting set for a Champions League final against Liverpool on May 28.

Elsewhere, Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema won the award for the best French player overseas, and PSG stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma took home the goalkeeper of the year award. 

Bruno Génésio won manager of the year for an impressive campaign at Rennes, who remain in the race for a Champions League place after outclassing Marseille last night. He beat Antoine Kombouaré (Nantes), Jorge Sampaoli (Marseille), Julien Stéphan (Strasbourg), and Christophe Galtier (Nice) to the award.
