Bad News For Man United As Erik Ten Hag Intending Assistant Reject Job Role.

Fred Rutten, a Dutch coach, has turned down the opportunity to work as Erik ten Hag's assistant manager at Manchester United, as he is uncomfortable about the project.

When the Red Devils' disastrous season comes to an end this summer, Ten Hag will take over as new permanent manager at Old Trafford.

It is yet unknown who will be his deputy manager in Manchester. Former England manager Steve McClaren was rumored to be interested in the job last month.

The 52-year-old is currently organising his backroom Old Trafford team but has been knocked back by a trusted confidant. 

Dutch coach Fred Rutten has revealed that he recently turned down Ten Hag's offer to join him in Manchester, instead choosing to be part of new PSV boss and former Red Devils striker Ruud van Nistelrooy's coaching staff.

Rutten, 59, is a vastly experienced coach having managed PSV, FC Twente, Schalke, Anderlecht and Feyenoord over the last two decades.

Ten Hag worked with Rutten at PSV from 2009 to 2012 and was apparently looking forward to working with him again at United but that's not the case.

"I have a wonderful family and grandchildren, every now and then, I would want to see them," Rutten told ESPN (via Metro).

"You get on a train at Manchester United and you can't get off it." I'd like to feel at ease in something you do. PSV is an example of this.

"Having grandchildren that you visit every now and then and can play ball with is fantastic."

"Of course, I spoke extensively with Ruud van Nistelrooy," Rutten remarked.

"He pushed me to give up my little more liberated lifestyle having talked to me in a room for two hours about football and other things.

"I believe Ruud has some experience, as he has previously trained a variety of teams, including Jong PSV's under-18s."

"He also has international experience with the Dutch national team." Ruud appears to be prepared, at least. I am a scathing critic.

"PSV represents a Champions League club to me." Everything you do should be in service of that idea."

Ten Hag is currently focused on finishing the Eredivisie season on a high with Ajax, who are presently in first place.

Ajax now have the chance to secure the league title on Wednesday at home against Heerenveen, their penultimate fixture this season. Only three points are needed to confirm Ajax’s 36th domestic crown.

After falling narrowly short in the KNVB Cup final last month, ending his Ajax tenure on a positive note is vital for Ten Hag before he takes on the seemingly impossible rebuilding job at Manchester United.

The Ajax coach would have liked to have secured the title by now but a slump in form and a host of injuries to key players have hampered their progression. Watching his future team’s performances in the Premier League won’t have eased the pressure either.

Man United have one more league game to play under interim manager, Ralf Rangnick who has his six-month contract set to expire next month.

Having seen their hopes of playing in the Champions League next season dashed. The multiple league winners would end the season trophyless.

They are currently 6th in the Premier League table and will now play to win their last game away to Crystal Palace on May 22, to stand any chance of qualifying for the Europa League next season.
