Antonio Rudiger Agrees Contract With Real Madrid, Announcement Expected After The UCL Final

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger have reached an agreement with Real Madrid as a free agent, after undergoing a medical with the club on Tuesday.

Rudiger signed a four-year contract, which would keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2026, but won't be made official until after the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid on May 28 in Paris.

According to reports, the deal is understood to be worth €400,000 (£342,000) per week, and will officially join the LaLiga champions on July 1.

The German centre-back, whose contract at Stamford Bridge expires in June, completed the deal via his agents with Real Madrid, as manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed the defender has rejected a new deal with Chelsea.

Rudiger is expected to earn between €9-10 million per year after taxes, plus a signing-on fee, which is much more than he was earning at Chelsea and what they offered to extend his contract, and his contract at the Bernabeu has a €400 million release clause.

Other top European clubs were interested in the 29-year-old including Bayern Munich, but Real were the first to formally express an interest.

Rudiger’s representatives also held talks with Barcelona earlier this season, while he had also been linked with Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.

He is set to partner with Militao as centre-backs for the Los Blancos next season, as David Alaba can also play at left-back, a position he already occupied at Bayern Munich.
