Wayne Rooney Gives An Emotional Speech To The Derby Fans After Relegation From The Championship.
Derby County have been relegated from the Championship, it was officially confirmed on Monday.
The club which former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney is currently the manager having replaced Phillip Cocu at the start of the 2020/21 season, have endured a tough start to his managerial career.
Rooney managed to guide the club to safety on the final match of the 2020-21 campaign but was unable to repeat the feat this time around as Derby drop down from the Championship to the third-tier of English football (league one).
Derby needed to better Reading's result but were defeated 1-0 away at Queens Park Rangers on Monday afternoons, while Reading grabbed a 90+5 minutes entertaining comeback to draw 4-4 against Swansea City.
The Ram's chances of survival this season, took a massive blow in November when they were deducted a total of 21 points (12 points for entering administration and 9 points breaching financial rules).
"It's a sad day. I'm sad, disappointed, upset, frustrated, but proud," Rooney told BBC in his postmatch interview.
"I think the effort the lads and the staff have put in to try and galvanise the squad and the club, it's been a lot of work put in.
"I've been in football a long time as a player and now in management and to see that reaction when a club's been relegated, I've never seen it. So the fans know what everyone's trying to do here and it's a weird feeling."

The fact that despite all the turmoil off the pitch, Wayne Rooney‘s side had an impressive run of form that they were officially relegated with just three matches to go.
If they had not received a points deduction, Derby would be sitting on 52 points and with no real fears of relegation.
The former England and Man United captain, further went ahead to give a brilliant and emotional speech in front of some of them who had gathered at the club’s Moor Farm training ground.
“We’re grateful for the support you’ve shown us all season. It’s been f***ing tough, been hard. Difficult moments for us, for you (fans) especially. But we’ve tried our best, we’ve given everything we can. It’s unfortunate we’ve been relegated but now we’ll plan to make sure this club comes back.”
he added that he will only remain at the club next season if there are new owners, with American business person Chris Kirchner named as the preferred bidder to take over.
"The takeover has to happen. If it doesn’t happen, then i fear for where the club will end up.
"The club's future is in doubt, if the takeover doesn't happen my future is in doubt. The quicker the takeover happens the quicker we can develop the squad.
"I want to rebuild the club. This is a special club, I’ve said all along. I want to try and bring the happy days back.
"I feel for the players. We’ve taken 52 points and in normal circumstances we’d be safe by now. We’ve paid the price for what the previous owner has left behind.

Rooney, 36, has already turned down the opportunity to manage former club Everton this season while also saying his "dream job" would be a return to Old Trafford.
