Reactions As Bayern Munich Plays 12 PLAYERS On The Pitch And Could Face Huge Punishment.

Bayern Munich's victory away to Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday could be in huge danger, after playing 12 men on the pitch for close to 17 seconds.

Julian Nagelsmann men secured a comfortable 1-4 win against Freiburg as full stadiums returns to the Bundesliga, but an error in in the final few moments caused confusion and commotion on and off the field.

In the 86th minute, Corentin Tolisso and Kingsley Coman were to be taken off for Marcel Sabitzer and Niklas Süle. Only Tolisso came off though, leaving Bayern with 12 players for 17 seconds (11 outfield players, and the goalkeeper) before players alerted referee Christian Dingert to the issue. 

The game was halted for eight minutes, and heated conversations between Bayern officials and the referee took place before parity was restored. At the time, Bayern were winning 3-1.

Now the Bavarian side could see their victory against Freiburg taken away from them, as they could be punished by points deduction with referee Dingert saying he had noted the incident in the match report.

Freiburg would love to get three crucial points from Bayern which could make the their battle for the top 4 even more interesting.

Referee Christian Dingert says the issue resulted from a mistake by Bayern's team manager, Kathleen Krüger, who displayed the wrong player number on the electronic board. When Süle came on number 29 (Kingsley Coman's old number) was on show instead of number 11 (Coman's current number), leaving the Frenchman unaware he was supposed to come off.

Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann acknowledged that it was a "bizarre situation" but said there were no decisive moments during that time. "The fourth official showed the wrong number," Nagelsmann told a news conference. "King (Coman) did not know he had to come off. It was eight or nine seconds I think that we played like that. It was not a game-deciding incident but still a bit weird.

"It didn't change the game, so I don't think there's a question of fairness," 

"It's normal for fans to be discussing it.I know who is to blame but I will not name them and do you this favour. I am happy we won."

Freiburg head coach Christian Streich said neither Freiburg nor Bayern should have anything to say and that the matter should be decided by the body of rules that all teams play under.

"I expect that we will not have to appeal anything," Streich said. "We abide by these rules, and that is all I will say about it."
