Oshoala Returns As Barcelona Cruise Past Wolfsburg In First-Leg Semifinal Of The UWCL.

Barcelona feminí just broke its own world record attendance for an official women’s football match set last month.

Women's Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas scored twice to put Barca in complete control of the tie.

91,648 fans watched the home team Barcelona rout Wolfsburg 5-1 in the first leg of their Women’s Champions League semifinal tonight, making them favourites to defend their crown. 

That figure surpassed the 91,553 fans who turned out for the Catalan club’s quarter-final win over rivals Real Madrid at the same stadium.

Aitana Bonmati gave the reigning champions the lead just three minute into the tie at the Camp Nou.

Caroline Graham Hansen doubled the advantage in the 10th minute, Jennifer Hermoso made it 3-0 in the 33rd minute after finishing off a gorgeous team buildup.

Alexia Putellas then scored Barca's fourth goal on the night just before the half-time break.

The German club visitors briefly reduced the deficit through Jill Roord’s 70th-minute finish following a lengthy VAR check as the goal was initially ruled out after the flag was raised.

Barcelona wanted to restore that four-goal margin, as Oshoala very quick in attack, took some desperate defending to stop her.

The dominant host didn't still stop the massacre as Dominique Janssen brought down Putellas and Barcelona were awarded a penalty.

The Spanish midfielder dust herself up to score a brace, having converted from the spot sending the keeper Schult the wrong way five minutes from time.

Putellas now leads the scoring charts in this year’s tournament with 10 goals.

Meanwhile, Nigerian international Asisat Oshoala returned once again to football action after spending over two months out due to a knee injury.

The 27-year-old sustained the injury in training while Nigeria’s Super Falcons were preparing for their Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifying fixture against the Lady Elephants Ivory Coast.

The nine-time African champions eventually booked their spot in this years AWCON tournament with a 3-0 aggregate win over neighbors.

Oshoala was also missing in action as the Super Falcons battled the Olympics Gold medallists Canada in two friendly matches. In the first meeting at BC Place in Vancouver, Canada secured a 2-0 win before Nigeria fought in the second meeting to force a 2-2 draw at Starlight Stadium in Canada.

Tonight, she was subbed on in the 74th minute of the game as a replacement for Jennifer Hermoso.

She has scored 19 goals in 16 league appearances for the Spanish champions.

Last season for Barcelona, Oshoala made 19 league appearances, scored 20 goals, and provided one assist.

She switched to Barcelona in July 2019 from Arsenal, for whom she made 13 league appearances in total, scoring two goals.

The second leg is at the Volkswagen Arena in Germany on Saturday April 30.

Lyon hosts Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday in the first leg of the other semifinal.

Barcelona is seeking to repeat its treble from last season. Jonatan Giráldez Costas side has already clinched the Spanish league and are in the Copa de la Reina semifinals.

The final for the UWCL is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 21 at Juventus Stadium in Turin.
