Karim Benzema and Samuel Chukwueze Goals KNOCKS-OUT Chelsea AND Bayern Munich From The UCL

Real Madrid knocks-out the defending champions Chelsea, and Villarreal eliminates Bayern Munich out of the Champions League.

The Los Blancos were defeated 3-2 after 120 minute of football at the Santiago Bernabeu on the night but still managed to progress to the semifinals on aggregate, courtesy of their 3-1 first-leg victory at the Stamford Bridge last week.

Chelsea who needed a minor miracle by scoring two un-replied goals to push the game into extra-time, turned up so positively, giving their fans a bit if hope having raced into a 3-0 lead in Spanish capital on Tuesday night courtesy of goals from Mason Mount (15'), Antonio Rudiger (51'), and Timo Werner (75') as the Blues were one foot into the semi-final.

Carlo Ancelotti's tactical substitute Rodrygo scored an 80th-minute goal through a moment of magic from Luka Modric to force the game into extra time. The Croatian pulled out a stunning pass with the outside of his foot for the Brazilian to finish brilliantly.

Then, into extra time, Karim Benzema headed home a sensational goal on the end of a cross from Vinicius Junior in the 96th minute, to claim a 5-4 aggregate win and send the Los Blancos through to the semi-final for the 10th time in 12 seasons.

Real Madrid joins fellow Spanish side Villarreal in the final four. Atletico Madrid still have a lifeline to join them if they defeat Man City by two goals on Wednesday night, and make it three Spanish teams in the semis.

Real will play the winner between Manchester City or Atletico Madrid in the last four.

On the other hand, Villarreal held Bayern Munich to a late hard-fought 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena on the night, to give them a 2-1 aggregate lead that sent them past the German giants.

The Yellow submarines had won the reverse fixture in Spain and allowed them travel to Bavaria with a slight edge, as Bayern hoped to overturn the deficit on Tuesday.

Unai Emery's men who tried all means possible to stop the overhauling Bayern team from scoring a single goal, had their fears grown when prolific striker Robert Lewandowski put Bayern ahead in the 52nd minute to level the scoreline 1-1 on aggregate.

However, just as the game looked destined to go all the way to extra time, Villarreal levelled matter at the death through a clinical finish from substitute Samuel Chukwueze in the 88th minute.

It would be the first time since 2006, Villarreal are in the Champions League semi-finals. 

Villarreal, despite sitting seventh in LaLiga Santander, now await to play the winner between Liverpool and Benfica in the top four.
