Bodo/Glimt Defeats Jose Mourinho Roma's Team Again In The Conference League Quarter-Finals

• Jose Mourinho's nightmare in the hands of Bodo/Glimt continued after his side fell to a 2-1 defeat in their Europa Confrence League quarter-final first leg game on Thursday night. 

• The Norwegians side Bodo/Glimt battled back from a goal down to grab a late 2-1 win over Roma at the Aspmyra Stadion.

Despite taking the lead through Lorenzo Pellegrini just before half-time, the visitors looked to extend a nine-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

A goalkeeping error from Rui Patricio allowed Ulrik Saltnes bundle in an equaliser for the home side in the 56th minute to level the game. 

Pellegrini had an effort ruled out for offside with 15 minutes remaining and Roma suffered another setback in the 89th minute when Hugo Vetlesen got to Amahl Pellegrino's free-kick first and nodded a dramatic winner past Patricio to make it 2-1.

It’s the third time that the Italian side have faced the minnows this term, with Mourinho’s side amazingly failing to secure a win in any of the fixtures so far.

Having lost 6-1 against the demos from that dark and cold night in Norwegian town back in October in the Europa Conference League group stage, Roma spared their blushes with a 2-2 draw just a couple of weeks later in November picking just four points from the fixtures.

Roma looked like they have got their mojo back after four wins in five, but endured another defeat last night, as the game showed that Bodo/Glimt have certainly got the measure.

Mourinho who has got Roma's mojo back by bringing them to the Serie A top four race,  admitted in his pre-match press conference that he was hoping for a different result, with the Portuguese boss describing his side as ‘a different team’ to their previous results, claiming that they’re ‘much stronger’ than their previous clash.

"Next week we will play at the Olimpico, in front of our fans. I don't have a problem saying that I feel we are still favourites. I have complete confidence in my players." He said.

Roma will face an uphill task on home turf if they’re to end their three-match winless streak against a team that has become something of a banana skin for them this season, with a must win in the second-leg on April 14 and secure a spot in the semi-finals where they’ll face either PSV Eindhoven or Leicester City.

They are definitely one of the favourites to win the inaugural Conference League despite the other likes of Marseille and PSV,  standing in their way.

In the other games on the night, Leicester were held to a goalless draw by PSV Eindhoven at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester were the better side for long periods against PSV but will now face a tough test next week in the second leg in the Netherlands.

The Foxes are hoping to reach the semi-finals of a European competition for the first time in their history, after also reaching the last eight of the 2016/17 Champions League.

Meanwhile, Feyenoord and Slavia Prague played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in Rotterdam, with Ibrahim Traore netting a 95th-minute equaliser for the Czechs side.

The hosts trailed 2-1 midway through the second period, before goals from Marcos Senesi and Orkun Kokcu appeared to have given them a first-leg lead.

Dimitri Payet starred for Marseille but the Ligue 1 club had to settle for a 2-1 win over Greeks PAOK at the Stade Velodrome.

The winger set up Gerson to put OM in front in the 13th minute before drilling home a second in the 45tg minute just on the stroke of half-time.

Moroccan Omar El Kaddouri pulled one back for PAOK early in the second half to leave the tie in the balance ahead of the return game, while Gerson was sent off in injury time.

The match was marred by some ugly clashes between supporters outside the stadium before kick-off.

The return-legs clash will be played next week Thursday April 14.
