NFF Sacks Super Eagles Technical Crew Led By Augustine Eguavoen.

 The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) led by Amaju Pinnick have announced that the Super Eagles Technical crew have been sacked.

This was made known in a statement issued by the NFF on Thursday, March 31, 2022, just after the three-time African champions drew 1-1 with Ghana in the second-leg World Cup qualifying playoff in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Super Eagles failed to score a goal when they travelled for the first-leg in Kumasi four days earlier having ended goalless.

The Black Stars secured one of Africa's five tickets for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year based on the away goal rule.

Augustine Eguavoen had to step down from his position with immediate effect as Technical Adviser, but will return to his former position as the head of the Technical Director of a national teams.

NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi in the statement said, “We thank the coaches and team officials for their service to the nation and wish them success in their future endeavours,”

Sanusi also disclosed that the Federation withdrew the two-and-a-half year contract offered to the coaches and terminated the appointment of the entire technical crew of the team with immediate effect.

Former Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr was fired less than a month before the commencement of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, CloudNine Sports reported.

Eguavoen was appointed almost immediately as interim boss to guide the Nigeria team in the 2021 AFCON tournament, but crashed in the round-of-16 after a 1-0 loss to Tunisia in Garoua.

Mr Peseiro was expected to be at the 2021 AFCON as team observer and take full charge of the team after the Nations' Cup in preparation for the World Cup qualifying play-off after being appointed as Gernot Rohr successor but the deal eventually fell through as Eguavoen was retained at the end of the tournament.

The NFF will now reportedly begin the search for the next Super Eagles boss with an announcement expected before the next international break.
