Karim Benzema Breaks Thierry Henry's Long-Standing Goal Record To Become French Top Goalscorer Of All Time.

Karim Benzema has now become the all-time French top goalscorer, surpassing Thierry Henry 's long-standing record. 

The 34-year old striker just keeps getting better with every game after scoring twice late on to add to Vinicius Junior's second-half strike and hand Madrid a 3-0 win against Real Mallorca in the La Liga at the at Son Moix stadium on Monday night, and extends the Los Blancos lead at the top to 10 points, ahead of second-placed Sevilla.

Given that they had beaten Mallorca 6-1 in the reverse fixture at the Bernabeu back in September which was their biggest win of the season to date, Madrid were expected to win this one with ease.

The defeat leaves Mallorca sitting 16th in the table, just two points above the relegation zone.

A few days ago, Benzema singlehandedly knocked PSG out of the UEFA Champions League with a sensational second-half hat-trick, which saw Real Madrid make a sensational comeback from a 0-2 deficit to eventually defeat the French giants 3-2 on aggregate.

His scintillating brace, which saw Real Madrid breeze past Mallorca, has now helped him surpass a record set by the iconic Thierry Henry. 

Benzema has now scored 413 career goals, two more than what his predecessor Henry had in his career (411), and at the rate Benzema is going, he could add many more to his record-breaking tally.

He is the top scorer in the La Liga with 22 goals, and also tops the assists' chart with 11 to his name, surpassing his best total attacking return of 32 in his 13 seasons wearing the Madrid shirt, and there are still ten games to play in La Liga.

Benzema's goal-scoring record is even more impressive as he had a five-and-a-half year omission from the French national team due to implications off the field, and the Madrid star missed two major tournaments, as well as multiple qualifying games, and yet managed to surpass Henry's record.

He joined Real Madrid back in 2009 after leaving French side Lyon for £30million, and he has been in the Spanish capital ever since, winning three La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies.

The French-man's red-hot form has been one of the reasons for Real Madrid's success so far this season, and as the season is gradually getting to its buisness end, Carlo Ancelotti's side are well on their way to win the La Liga 2021-22 title, which would be the 35th league title in the club’s history.

The Spanish giants are also expected to mount a serious Champions League challenge this season, as they expect to face any of the tournaments favorite in the last-8, and could join Cristiano Ronaldo as the only player to win the tournament five times, if they go ahead to emerge champions.

Being a proof that age is only a number Benzema is aging like a fine wine, as he has also added international silverware to his impressive trophy cabinet, helping France team win the Nations League last year.

Real Madrid next assignment is the El Clasico against archrivals Barcelona, on  Sunday March 21 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, and the bad news for Carlo Ancelotti is that Benzema had to leave his team-mates to play on with 10 men for the last few minutes of the match against Mallorca, Ancelotti had used all his substitutions by the time he picked up his knock.
