Erik Ten Hag Set To Become Man United Next Manager After Positive Interview With The Club.
Manchester United are reportedly looking to name Erik ten Hag as their next new permanent manager after interviewing the highly-rated Ajax coach who is now a preferred managerial candidate.
The 52-year old has done well at Ajax but, with the end of the campaign gradually getting closer, he is now looking ahead to a new challenge. And the Red Devils’ star-studded squad is the perfect welcome gift for the Dutchman, despite their issues this term.
Ten Hag has a contract at Ajax that runs until the summer of 2023, but United’s good relationship with the Dutch club (former goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is chief executive) allowed them to speak to him.
Ajax would not stand in Ten Hag's way if United offered him the job, but the Eredivisie side would require around £4million in compensation, it has been claimed.
Man United have also been linked with a host of managers as they explore who should replace Ralf Rangnick, who was named interim boss in December last year.
Having guided United to a second-place finish last season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked in November following series of poor results, and the German manager Ralf Rangnick stepped into the hot-seat at Old Trafford as interim boss and, as things stand, he is set to move into an advisory role at the club this summer.
United want to make a decision on their next permanent manager as soon as possible, which is being led by Darren Fletcher and John Murtough in other to have their new man in place immediately after the end of the season. ,
According to Mail Online, Erik ten Hag was interviewed for the role on Monday in line with taking over as permanent manager of Man United.
United sources on Tuesday said a number of candidates are being interviewed from a list that includes Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique, Julen Lopetegui, who steered Sevilla to second-place in La Liga this season.
Mauricio Pochettino was an initial top target, despite the Argentine struggling to get the best from his star-studded squad at Paris Saint-Germain.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is no longer considered a viable option. Ten Hag, previously linked with Tottenham and Newcastle, is the bookies’ favourite to take over.
The highly-rated Ten Hag has re-built the Ajax team during his time in his homeland, making the Dutch outfit club a side to be reckoned with on the domestic and European stages since his appointment in 2017.
He has gone on to win two Eredivisie titles and three domestic cups for the Amsterdam giants. He also led them to the Champions League semi-finals in 2019 and the last 16 of this year's competition, after a disappointing defeat to Portuguese side Benfica.
United fans and supporters have responded to the reports of the Dutchman interview on social media, while some wants Ten Hag for the job, others still thinks Pochettino is the right man.
It's not about the compensation. That's the problem right there. You have to pay the money to get the best man, irrespective of the compensation. However that being said, Ten Hag is the best OPTION. IMO. Therefore this is a no brainer.
