Victor Osimhen is Likely to play in the Premier League, as Arsenal are set to rival Newcastle for his signature CloudNine Sports understands.

The Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has become an urgent target for Arsenal who missed out on Dusan Vlahovic as the Fiorentina striker decided a deal with Juventus, forcing the Gunners to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Premier League duo Arsenal and Newcastle United have turned their attention to land Osimhen this month been valued for £60m by Napoli's President Aurelio De Laurentiis who is willing to listen to offer around that range.

Osimhen has recently recovered from a cheekbone fracture after a clash of heads against Inter, and a positive Covid-19 test to return to action for Napoli, but is yet to be handed a start in Luciano Spalletti squad this year.

The 23-year-old has already scored nine goals in 16 competitive games for Napoli this season, but was forced to miss the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations for Super Eagles of Nigeria which stirred controversy.

He has been in red-hot form for his nation, with five goals from eight appearances in 2021.

Nonetheless, both Arsenal and Newcastle are prepared to pay close to £58m, and it is not known if they would be prepared to go that high.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta currently has issues with club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah, and having failed to sign Serbian international Vlahovic, the Spanish tactician has urged technical director Edu to find him a new frontman before the window closes.

The north Londoners have also been linked with Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Alexander Isak of Real Sociedad and Real Madrid’s Luka Jovic, but Nigerian international Osimhen looks like Vlahovic alternative. 

Osimhen joined Napoli for £66m from French club Lille in 2020, though that transfer is now the subject of an investigation due to an increased fees of four youth team players in part-exchange.

He scored 10 in 2020-2021 season, and 13 goals the previous season when playing for Lille. The Lagos-born star has an enviable strike rate at international level, with 10 goals from 18 outings.

Meanwhile, the Gunners face stiff competition from Newcastle under the new ownership of their mega-rich Saudi Arabia rich owners who are also rumoured to be interested in Osimhen.

The Magpies currently risk relegation from the Premier League, as they have bought Chris Wood for £25m from Burnley earlier this month to add more firepower to their attack, and full-back Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid.
