The Super Eagles Lands In Garoua, Cameroon For The 2021 AFCON Tournament To Begin In Three Days.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria, have landed in the host nation country Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations'set to begin in three days.
Super Eagles arrived at the Garoua International Airport on Wednesday night via a chartered Air Peace flight.
They departed the Nigeria's camp in Abuja with 25-players present, and still expecting three more players such as, Venezia's Tyronne Ebueh, Paderborn's Jamiliu Collins and Al Shabab's Odion Ighalo who could likely be replaced by Feyenoord Cyriel Dessers due to a contract clause with his club.
Apart from Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, who is bereaved, and was granted permission to leave the team’s camp after losing a family member, all other players are said to be in good condition.
The Fatih Karagumruk of Turkey 28-yeae-old striker, missed the team’s last training session held inside the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, on Wednesday following the incident.
Musa was a member of the 2013 Super Eagles squad that won the AFCON for the third time in South Africa under late gaffer Stephen Keshi, and also part of the squad that finished third in the same competition last time out in Egypt 2019.
He will now link up with the other teammates in Cameroon ahead of Nigeria’s Group D opener against Egypt on Tuesday, January 11, at the Roumde Adjia Stadium. (5pm NGA).
They also have games against other Group D opponents, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau to be played on January 15 and January 19 respectively.
The Super Eagles will take on Cameroonian top-flight champions Coton Sport in a friendly preparatory match at the practice pitch of Roumde Adjia Stadium on Friday, which would be behind closed doors.
Austin Eguavoen's side are looking forward to make their 19th appearance in the tournament a memorable one, seeking to win the AFCON title for a fourth time in history, having won the title in 1980, 1994, and 2013 respectively.
