Lionel Messi To Resume Training With PSG After Returning A Negative Coronavirus Test.

Lionel Messi has returned a negative COVID-19 test and flew back to France to resume training with Paris Saint-Germain in the coming days. 

Messi tested positive for Covid-19 as reported by PSG on January 2nd in his native Argentina over the festive period, and was forced into self-isolation afterwards.

He missed the PSG 4-0 victory away to fourth division French football side Vannes on Monday.

Messi took the recommended follow-up tests, on Tuesday, and the result returned negative, which allowed him to return to the French capital.

“The test carried out by Leo Messi was negative for Covid-19. He has arrived in Paris and he will resume with the group in the coming days,” PSG said in a statement.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner, has only been able to score just once in 11 league appearances so far for PSG since his emotional move from boyhood club Barcelona last summer, although he has netted five times in the Champions League.

Messi fitness will be assessed by the club’s medical team upon his return to Paris to determine if he would be available for the club's first Ligue 1 match since the Winter break on December 22.

PSG pay visit to Lyon on Sunday, and play at home to Brest in their next Ligue 1 game on Saturday 15 January.

The French giants are also missing full-back Layvin Kurzawa, and Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who have all also returned positive Covid test results in the past week.
