Cristiano Ronaldo Reveals His Retirement Age After Winning The FIFA's Special Award.

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed how many years he has left before he retires from football after picking up another award last night.

The Portuguese international added to his impressive list of personal trophies after winning the Special Award from FIFA after his incredible goalscoring record for his country. 

He broke the international goal-scoring record with an incredible 115 goals in 184 appearances for Portugal.

Ronaldo surpassed Ali Daei’s total in September last year after scoring his 110th and 111th international goals in their World Cup qualifying game against the Republic of Ireland, netting two late goals in the 89th and 90+6 minutes respectively to secure a 2-1 win for Portugal.

He had previously equalled Daei’s record of 109 goals with two converted penalties in his nation’s final Euro 2020 group match against France back in June.

“From all the records that I have broken during my career – and fortunately there have been a few – this one is very special for me and it’s certainly on the shelf of the achievements that make me truly proud... the 36-year-old said in an emotional post on Instagram at the time.

Ronaldo has had one of the most impressive careers in football history, winning trophies across Europe (five Champions League trophies, seven league titles and six domestic cups, as well as five Ballon d’Ors) with Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus.

He was present to receive the Special Best Men's Award from FIFA's President Gianni Infantino at the FIFA Football Awards ceremony held on Monday night in Zurich, Switzerland.

Expressing his delight after receiving the Special award Cristiano Ronaldo said, 

"It is a dream,"

"First of all, I have to say thank you to my teammates in the national team in the last 20 years that I used to play with.

"The record was 109, right? So six ahead. I am so proud. It is a special award from Fifa, an organisation I respect a lot. I also have to thank my family. Soon I will be a father again. I am proud. It is great to be the goalscorer of all time.

When asked when he plans to retire, as he  still breaks records at a time when many players would be thinking about hanging up their boots, Ronaldo added;

"I still have the passion for the game and to score goals. I play football since I was five years old. When I go to the pitch, even in training, my motivation is still there.

"Even 37 soon, I feel good. I keep working hard. I love the game and have the passion. I want to continue. I hope to play maybe four or five years, It is all mental. If you treat your body good, when you need it it will give back."

Meanwhile, Christine Sinclair from Burnaby, B.C., was also presented with the Best FIFA Special Award for Women's Football last night. 

She has 188 goals in 308 international appearances since her first cap in year 2000. She was honoured by FIFA for her record goal-scoring exploits, making her the footballer with the most international goals scored by either a female or male player worldwide.

The 38-year-old Canada captain Christine Sinclair confirmed she has more to do on and off the soccer pitch for the next two seasons with Portland and Canada leading up to the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

"I would like to take this time to thank Fifa for this once in a lifetime recognition," Sinclair said after receiving the award. 

"First and foremost thanks to my family."To my parents for letting me go off and chase my dreams, to my brother - I hope he knows all I wanted to be was him. I have been lucky to win trophies internationally and at club level.

"The victories are quickly forgotten - apart from the Olympic gold medal! What lasts most is the connections I have made. To all my team-mates, I hope you know how thankful I am to all of you."
