Alexis Sanchez Late Extra-Time Strike Wins The Italian Super Cup For Inter Against Juventus.

Inter Milan emerge champions of the Supercoppa Italian following victory over Juventus on Wednesday night.

Inter needed a late extra time goal from Alexis Sanchez to beat rival Juventus 2-1 at the San Siro.

Lautaro Martinez had converted a penalty in the 35th minute to cancel out American midfielder Weston McKennie's 25th minute opener for Juventus in an entertaining game for the first piece of silverware of the season..

Just as the match was heading for penalties, Juventus gifted Inter the winner. A defensive error from Bianconeri defender Alex Sandro who tried to chest the ball to Giorgio Chiellini but gave Matteo Darmian a chance to flick it on for Sanchez to fire home a close-range finish with practically the last kick of the game.

The goal sparked wild scenes of celebration at the stadium, as almost every member of the Inter bench ran onto the field to embrace Sanchez in the far corner.

It was the most dramatic possible conclusion to the game after 120th minute of extra time, with no injury time to be added for Juve to respond.

Sanchez has not been a regular at the Nerazzurri this season, making just four starts across all competitions, but he was the hero for Simone Inzaghi’s side on the day, winning Inter's first Italian Super Cup since 2010.

The victory handed Inzaghi's his first title as Inter boss, having taken over from Serie A title-winning manager Antonio Conte in the summer.

It was also a third Super Cup triumph for the 45-year-old as manager, having previously winning the trophy twice with Lazio against Juventus in the showpiece event.

Sanchez speaking to Mediaset after starting the game on the bench said: "The more a champion plays, the better he is, and he does things nobody else can do.

"Today it was like that. I thought I would start because I was in form, I respect the coach but I was hungry to win... I felt like a caged lion."

The Italian Super Cup, is the annual football match contested by the Serie A winners, and the Coppa Italia champions from the previous season.

This is first time since 2012 that Juventus qualified for the game as Coppa Italia champions, rather than as usual league champions after their run of nine successive Serie A titles wins was ended by Inter last season.

Defending champions Juve, was making a 10th consecutive Super Cup appearance after beating Atalanta in last season's Coppa Italia final, and has won the title a record nine-times.

Meanwhile, Inter now has won a total sixth Italian Super Cup title, that's three short of  Juventus.

Inter currently are top of the Serie A, 11 points ahead of fifth place Juventus, who have had a difficult start to the season.
