PSG Defender Sergio Ramos Vows To Fight To Death When PSG Face His Old Club Real Madrid In The UCL Last-16.

Paris Saint-Germain defender Sergio Ramos, has revealed that he would rather play against another team in the Champions League knockouts round following the Last-16 draw on Monday afternoon.

PSG were previously drawn against Man United, and Real to play benfica which was declared void by UEFA. 

In the second draw, PSG got Real Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16, which means that Sergio Ramos will face the team that he captained last year.

The Real Madrid legend had left the club last summer after been unable to reach an agreement on a new contract and instead signed for PSG as a free agent on a two-year deal.

His move to Paris ended his 16 years stay with the Los Blancos side where he won five LaLiga titles and four Champions Leagues. 

Sergio Ramos speaking after the draw at the launch of his new gym in Madrid said he would have preferred his current club had avoided his former club Real Madrid in the Last-16 UCL draw.

"Fate is very unpredictable. I'd have liked us to draw another team, but that's how it is,"

"When I arrived on the plane it was United, which is a team that was cool to me and then it turns out that it was not valid," the 35-year-old said.

"I would have liked not to have that confrontation but returning to the Bernabeu is cause for joy, I could not have a good farewell because of Covid.

"You know the affection and love I have for Real Madrid, that won't ever change. Now I have to face the present. I play for PSG."

"I'd have liked it to be another way but that's football. I have to defend my team. I'll fight to the death with PSG and I’ll do everything possible to reach the next round with them."

The Parisians would have to overcome the guys from Madrid in over two-legs to be played on Feb. 15 and March 9, and remain on course to win their first ever Champions League title.

Ramos has endured a difficult time in his career since moving to France due to some Injury crises. He has only made one appearance for the French giants, which was in the 3-1 win over Saint-Etienne on November 28.

After struggling be to recover with a calf injury that required a knee surgery in February, the five-time La Liga champion, and four-time UCL winner, had sustained a new and unspecified muscle problem after playing 90-mins in the Ligue 1 game away to St. Etienne.

“It’s been a few hard months, with such a great change from many years in Madrid, to adjusting to Paris”, Ramos told Marca of his struggles this season with injuries.

“Finally, I am feeling good, and little by little I’m becoming used to the group dynamic."

"The squad is a group made up of real stars and it's essential to get along well and that's the way it is. They have welcomed me with open arms... Added the Spaniard.

"It has been hard, different from what I have experienced in my career. I have always avoided injuries.

"The important thing is to feel like a player again. There were many hours of darkness, loneliness, but it has helped me to overcome challenges.

"It's helped me to know who were really there and who were not. Ramos will be around for a while. The family has already adapted well. I'm smiling again, and want to compete again."

 

Real Madrid on the other hand are in a very good top form at the moment, and are looking to add PSG star Kylian Mbappé in the mix in the coming transfer windows.

They currently have a good advantage over others in the LaLiga Santander, as Carlo Ancelotti men would be hoping to keep up with this momentum when the UCL resumes in February next year.
