Mohamed Salah Leads Egypt 25-man Final Squad For The 2021 AFCON
Egypt national team coach Carlos Queiroz, has released his team’s final list of players for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, which begins on January 9 in Cameroon.
The 25-man final squad list which was released in Cairo on Wednesday has six foreign-based players which includes Liverpool,s star Mo Salah, Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny, and there is a return for Aston Villa’s Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet.”
Galatasaray forward Mostafa Mohamed and Stuttgart midfielder Omar Marmoush also made the cut, but surprise absentees include Al Ahly's Mohamed Magdy and Zamalek's Tarek Hamed, Ahmed Hassan Kouka and Ahmed Yasser Rayan were both excluded.
The Pharaohs who are favorites to win the 33rd edition of the title, hold the record of winning the AFCON seven times, with the last one they won in the 2010 edition in Angola.
Queiroz’s men play in Group D alongside Nigeria, Sudan and Guinea Bissau and will begin their campaign against the three-time champions Super Eagles on Tuesday, January 11.
