All About The Last-16 Champions League Draw, With Man United, Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea Set To Know Opponent

The UEFA Champions League round-of-16 draws is set to take place on Monday 13th December at 11am GMT in Nyon, Switzerland. 

A live stream is expected to be available on UEFA's various social media accounts, while CloudNine Sports will also have live updates across its Twitter, Instagram and Facebook pages. 

As expected, all four Premier League representatives - Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United, all  qualified safely into the last-16 draw.

They all hope to get some good news as they get to know their next opponent in the next hours, but as we all know, some of the teams would also expect to be handed some horror tie going forward.

At this stage of the competition, the winners from the eight groups would be drawn against the eight runners-up, but clubs from the same country and those that have faced each other in the group stages cannot be drawn against each other until the quarter-final stages of the competition.

For example, Man United cannot be drawn against Chelsea or any other team from England, and Man City will not be forced to go toe-to-toe with Paris Saint-Germain again, same as Liverpool would not play Atletico Madrid again in the next round.

Teams who topped their group will all be away from home in the first-leg of the Last-16 ties.

First, Man City could face possible trips to Spain, Portugal, Italy, or Austria in the new year, with six possible opponents for Pep Guardiola's side. 

Atletico Madrid, Sporting Lisbon, Inter Milan, Benfica, Villarreal and RB Salzburg are all potential sides Man City could face in the round of 16. 

Liverpool who are also on City's and United's side of the draw, could also come up against  teams that finished as group runners-up such as PSG, Benfica, Salzburg, Sporting Lisbon, Inter Milan or Villarreal.

Man United could get a draw that sees Mauricio Pochettino visit Old Trafford and Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi go head-to-head. The Red Devils could also come up against Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Sporting Lisbon.

Chelsea having dramatically missed out on top spot in Group H last Wednesday evening, being held to a late 3-3 draw by Zenit St Petersburg, meant Juventus won the group. The reigning Champions League holders, could now end up facing one of the likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid for a second successive season, Lille or Ajax.

The First-legs are scheduled to be played on February 15th, 16th, 22nd and 23rd, while second-legs are due to take place almost a month later, on March 8th, 9th, 15th and 16th respectively.

You may recall that UEFA announced at the start of the season, that they have scrapped the away goals rule, meaning that Knock-out ties in the competition that end in a draw will no longer be dependent on away goals.

Teams who qualifies from the round-of-16, would wait for the quarter-finals and semi-finals draw scheduled to take place on Friday 18th March.
