Victor Osimhen Set For Surgery, And Could Miss The 2021 AFCON With The Super Eagles.

Nigeria and Napoli super forward VICTOR OSIMHEN is set to undergo surgery tomorrow after being involved in a terrible head collision with Inter Milan's defender Skriniar over the weekend.

Napoli faced the reigning champions Inter Milan at the San Siro in the Serie A, a tie which ended 3-2 and handed Napoli their first league defeat of the 2021-22 season.

Osimhen had to be withdrawn after spending only 10 minutes in the second half of Sunday’s thrilling encounter.

The 22-year-old managed to walk off the pitch, clearly dazed and with a swollen face, following the head collision.

He was taken to the Niguarda Hospital in Milan immediately and was discharged on Monday after being properly examined.

Napoli confirmed in a statement, that Osimhen was diagnosed with multiple displaced fractures of the orbit and left cheekbones, and would remain under observation, with the striker scheduled to go into surgery today to correct the displacement.

According to reports by the Italian media, he could be out of action for a month or two, he could probably make a return on December 19 against Milan, but it’s still difficult to make predictions about the actual date of his comeback.

Osimhen's absence would be a major blow for Napoli’s title challenge as they currently top the Serie A standings with 32 points after 13 matches, same point as rivals AC Milan who are second.

Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti as quoted by Football Italia said: “He has this swollen eye and couldn’t see very well, so he needs tests. The swelling went up around his eye and I hope it is just a bruise. I hope.”

Osimhen has so far scored five league goals this season in 11 appearances, and a further four in the Europa League, making him the clubs leading goalsscorer this season.

He could also be missed by the Super Eagles as they prepare to take part in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals to be held in Cameroon from January 9 to February 6.

He has been in fine form for the national team scoring four goals in their Group C World Cup qualifying round for Qatar 2022.
