Ralf Rangnick On The Verge To Become Man United New Interim Manager.

Manchester United have reportedly reach an agreement with Ralf Rangnick to become new club's interim  boss for six months 

 

United have been on the search for a new manager after the sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday morning.

The Red Devils parted ways with Solskjaer just hours following their 4-1 battering by Watford last Saturday, with the club languishing in eighth position in the league table with 17 points from 12 games, and six points off the last Champions League qualification spot.

Rangnick is now the top favorite to take the reins at the Theatre of Dreams until the end of the season, after several links of candidates like (Rudi Garcia, Lucien Favre, Paulo Fonseca and Ernesto Valverde) were considered to take up the job as interim boss.

According to the Athletic, agreement has been reached with Rangnick, which will see him leave his position as head of sports and development at Lokomotiv Moscow to take up the role.

The Russian club still have to agree to release Rangnick from his contract, although United are understood to not view this as an obstacle to the 63-year-old taking the helm.

Former United player Michael Carrick took charge of the team for Tuesday's Champions League 2-0 win at Villarreal, which secured progress to the knockout stages as table toppers, but the club want to bring in a more experienced figure until the end of the season.

Sources claim that, the 'Godfather of German football' (Rangnick), flew into Manchester at the start of the week to hold talks with the club, and rejected an initial offer to take charge, but has since accepted new terms.  

In the new terms, Rangnick would have to remain at the club for two years beyond the end of the season in a consultancy role.

The 63-year-old will not be in charge for Saturday's trip to Chelsea due to work permit reasons. He has previously managed Hannover, Schalke, Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig.

He has more recently taken up roles as director of football at Red Bull group of clubs in Europe, Salzburg and RB Leipzig, turning them into constant Champions League regulars, before moving to Russia.  

United are planning to make a permanent appointment at the end of the season and Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino is their first choice, with Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag also in their consideration.
