Michael Carrick Tipped To Succeed Steven Gerrard As The New Rangers Manager.

Scottish giants Rangers are on the lookout for a new manager following the departure of Steven Gerrard to succeed Dean Smith at Aston Villa.

Manchester United midfielder and current first-team coach Michael Carrick has been tipped as a potential candidate to replace Steven Gerrard at the Ibrox stadium.

The former Liverpool legend was appointed the new Villa boss last Thursday on a three-and-a-half-year contract after an impressive record at Rangers.

Villa has to pay Rangers a compensation of around £3 million to release him from his contract.

Gerrard led Rangers through a record-breaking season, claiming back-to-back derby wins over rivals Celtic, and topping their Europa League group table.

He also won the Scottish Premiership title without losing a single league match, achieving their first league title in 10 years. 

Out of 193 games in charge of Rangers since 2018, Gerrard has a 64.8% win ratio, wining 125 games, 42 draws, and 26 losses.

Speaking on the BBC’s Sportsound podcast, former Rangers and Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam said he believes Carrick could follow in Gerrard’s footsteps and take up his first managerial position in Glasgow.

“Will they go down that same route? Will they go for an experienced name? There will only be three or four people that know.”

Carrick has been part of the United backroom staff since he retired from football in 2018 under Jose Mourinho and became an assistant coach till date.

The 40-year-old spent 12 years at the Theatre of Dreams having joined from Tottenham in 2006, wining a total of 17 trophies (5 Premier League titles, 1 FA Cup, 2 League Cups, 6 Community Shields, 1 Champions League, 1 Europa League, and 1 Club World Cup).

Meanwhile, Giovanni  van Bronckhorst is the top favourite to step into the Rangers hot seat, with reports suggesting Rangers have already begun speaking to the former Arsenal and Barcelona defender.

Gennaro Gattuso, John Terry and Frank Lampard have also been linked as potential candidates for the job.

Carrick would definitely be looking to make his first move into management, despite the increasing pressure United boss Solskjaer is currently facing consigning his job.
