Didier Drogba Admits That 'He Will Cry' If Mohamed Salah Continues To Break All His Records

Didier Drogba is filled with emotions as he reacts to his fellow African brother Mohamed Salah who continues to break all his records.

The Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has said that he may be reduced to tears if Mohamed Salah continues to  surpasss all of his goalscoring records as a striker.

The Ivorian star was the first African player to score 100 goals in 254 Premier League appearances during his two spells with Chelsea in England (2004-2012, and 2014-2015).

However, Drogba's eventual tally of 104 goals was recently overtaken by Liverpool's forward Salah as the highest-scoring African player in Premier League history following his hat-trick against Manchester United in the 5-0 victory at Old Trafford.

Salah has since then scored one more goal (the third goal in Liverpool's 4-0 trashing  over Arsenal last Saturday to increase his goals tally to 108 goals in 170 Premier League appearances. 

The Egyptian international is currently the League top-goalscorer this season with 11 goals, four ahead of team-mate Sadio Mane and Leicester's Jamie Vardy, and joint top-assist with Paul Pogba's (7).

He has so far scored 17 goals in 17 games across all competition this season, and scoring for 10 games in a row at some point.

It's also Salah's second spell in England, first was with Chelsea in 2013-2015 where he score two of those league goals, and now with Liverpool from 2017-present.

The two time African footballer of the year (2017 and 2018), has won two Premier League golden boots, one of which he was the record top-scorer in a single-season with 32 goals on his dubut season for the Anfield giants (2017/18).

Salah who seems not to be slowing down anytime soon, Drogba is now worried the 29-year-old may yet shatter yet some of his other records like being the currents record-holder for the African player with the most Premier League assists (54) and the most Champions League goals (44).

"If he continues he's going to destroy all my records! I want to cry," Drogba told Egyptian channel 'Mehwar TV'

“What I’ve seen during training, and all his team-mates will tell you, the quality was there.

"He just needed time on the pitch to show his talent and his quality... The 43-year-old lamented as he had played with Salah during his return days at Chelsea (2014/15 season).

Drogba says he believes Salah despite having a tough time with the Blues at the time, was always destined to be successful, based on what he saw behind the scenes.

"When you look at the squad we had at the time, it was not easy to play, but what really got me attached to Mo is that he's really nice, he's really polite, even when he was not playing.

"He was sad not to contribute, but he was always good. When you have this kind of intelligence it's just a matter of time before you blow up."

"I remember we spoke a few times when he was at Roma and he was scoring goals and then he had a moment when he was not scoring and he asked me how to deal with this kind of situation," said the two time African Player of the Year Drogba (2006 and 2009).

"I shared with him a lot of examples and experience and how it happened to me and all the strikers."

Salah is currently fourth in Liverpool's all-time Premier League top scorers list, just 22 behind leader Robbie Fowler, who scored 128.

According to reports, Didier Drogba has also urged Mohamed Salah to rejoin his former club Chelsea if possible.

Salah's current contract at Anfield set to expire at the end of next season, with the Reds still in talks with the Egypt international over extending his stay on Merseyside.

 

Jurgen Klopp's men return to action when they host Southampton in the Premier League this weekend.

The Reds are in third position in the league standings with 25 points, and four points behind leaders Chelsea.
