Kelechi Iheanacho's Brace Against Liberia Ensures The Super Eagles Begins The 2022 World Cup Qualifier Opener In Style.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria opened their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign with a superb 2-0 victory over Liberia at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos on Friday evening.

Leicester City’s star, Kelechi Iheanacho opened scoring for Nigeria in the 22nd minute and then added a second goal for his side just before half time break.

 

The result takes Nigeria top of Group C with 3 point, as fellow group sides Central African Republic and Cape Verde played out a 1-1 draw at the Stade de la Réunification on Monday night.

Central African Republic will now play Liberia away next Monday, While Nigeria will look to maintain it's fine start when they travel to face Cape Verde at the Aderito Sena stadium on Tuesday, 7th September.

40 teams which have been divided into ten groups, would battle to make it to the third and final rounds of the African World Cup qualifiers.

Only five teams would eventually make it to the showpiece event in Qatar next year.

Since the Super Eagles qualified for the first time in USA 1994, they have missed out on only one World Cup tournament which was held in Germany 2006.
