Enyimba FC Appoints Ex-Nigerian International Finidi George As New Head Coach.

Nigeria Professional Football League side Enyimba have on Wednesday confirmed the appointmen of Finidi George as new manager of the club. 

The former Super Eagles winger, will take over from “Fatai Osho" whose contract with the eighth time league champions expired at the end of last month.

Fatai Osho guided the People's Elephants to a second-place in the just concluded 2020-21 NPFL season.

Finidi signed a two year contract with Enyimba (two-time Champions League winners), and his first game in charge would be to lead the Aba-based club in the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round fixture against Senegalese side Diambers FC in mid-October.

Speaking to the club's media, the 50-year-old expressed his delight following his appointment as coach of the most successful Nigerian football club;

“I have to say it’s a great opportunity for the club to have this confidence in me...Finidi said.

"I want to thank the chairman, the members of the board, and the supporters for even thinking about me.

“On my own part, I will be here to just work and do the job. It’s never going to be easy, but I’m here to work and make the team win.”

During his footballing career, Finidi made 62 caps for the Super Eagles from 1991-2002.

He represented his country in the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cups respectively, and was part of the squad that led his nation to glory in the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations tournament hosted by Tunisia.

Finidi also made two consecutive UEFA Champions League finals with Ajax, and won the 1995 edition, including three Eredivisie titles, two Johan Crujff shields, one UEFA Super Cup, and one Intercontinental Cup in his 3-year stay at the Dutch club (1993-1996).

He further went on to play for Spanish sides Real Betis and RCD Mallorca, he also played English side Ipswich Town before his retirement from the game in 2004.
