OFFICIAL: PSG Completes The Long-Awaited Signing Of Lionel Messi From Barcelona.

Paris Saint-Germain has officially completed the long-awaited signing of Lionel Messi on a free transfer, just two-days after leaving boyhood club Barcelona.

The transfer highly regarded as one of the biggest transfer in football history was officially announced by the Qatar-backed club on Tuesday night.

Messi, who bid farewell to Barcelona in a press conference on Sunday, had remained at his home in Castelldefels until Tuesday afternoon, despite hundreds of PSG fans gathering at the city's main airports, as well as the Parc des Princes, on Monday to wait for his imminent arrival hoping to catch a glimpse of their new signing.

Messi’s father Jorge, who is also his agent, had earlier confirmed the inevitable as he arrived at Barcelona’s El Prat airport to board a flight to France.

PSG's social media team posted a video of six Ballon d'Ors - Messi is the only player to have won this many - and the Eiffel Tower in the background after reports that Messi will be presented at the Eiffel Tower, just like Neymar was back in 2017.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner finally landed at Le Bourget airport to the north of Paris, as his pictures wearing a "Ici C'est" Paris t-shirt on his arrival in Paris continue to emerge, fom a balcony where he waved to the crowd, inside the stadium and on the streets of Paris before being taken for a medical at a hospital just outside the city.

Some fans also gathered outside the club’s Parc des Princes stadium and outside a plush hotel in the city where Messi along with wife Antonella and their three children are expected to be staying.

The 34year-old signed a two-year contract with the option of a third at PSG, where he will receive a reported net salary of €35 million per year.

In a sight that will be uncomfortable for Barcelona fans around the world, a short video emerged of Leo Messi taking his first steps, and touces of a ball, in PSG colours.

Messi will wear the number 30 shirt for the Parisians, a number he had worn when he began his professional career at Barcelona between 2004-2006.

He was offered the No.10 shirt by his friend, Neymar, but he refused and one of the alternatives was the No.19, which he also wore in his youth.

“I am excited to begin a new chapter of my career at Paris Saint-Germain,” said Messi in a statement on the club’s website.

"Everything about this club, matches my football ambitions."

"I know how talented the players and the coaching staff are here, and I am determined to help build something special for the club and fans." 

PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino looks at his squad list for the upcoming season, he is going to have one of the best, if not the best, group of players in the world at his disposal.
