Brazil Are The New Host Of The 2021 Copa America, After Colombia And Argentina Pulled Out

The 2021 Copa America has been moved to Brazil after co-host Colombia and Argentina officially pulled out of hosting the tournament.

The South American football governing body (CONMEBOL) based in Paraguay, confirmed the news on Monday, with just 13 days left before the oldest national team tournament in the world is set to begin, and thrill the entire continent.

President of CONMEBOL, Alejandro Dominguez addedin a statement, that it was a unanimous decision that the council took to have Brazil as the host nation. 

Colombia had abolished the plans to host the tournament earlier on May 20 amid the ongoing political protests against the country's President Ivan Duque.

This made Argentina take up the mantle as the sole host for the Copa America, but due to the rising cases of coronavirus in the country, they have also pulled out.

The 47th edition of the tournament is set to begin on begin on June 13th, and end on July 11th, with cities and match days to be confirmed in the very near future.

We understand that the Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has also confirmed the full support for hosting the upcoming Copa America 2021 in the country.

Five-time World Cup winners Brazil are currently the defending champions from 2019 edition, making it their ninth title, which they were also host.

Like every other Sporting tournaments, the  Copa America was originally due to be played last year, but was postponed as a result of the outbreak of covid-19 in 2020.
