Barcelona Completes The Signing Of Eric Garcia From Man City.
Barcelona have completed the signing of Eric Garcia on a free transfer from Manchester City.
The 20-year-old Spanish centre-back, signed a five-year deal which will keep him at the Nou Camp until the end of the 2025/26 season and with a buy out clause set at 400m euros (£343m).
He would join his boyhood club when his contract at Man City expires at the end of this month.
Man City had rejected a previous bid of £15.4million (plus add-ons) from Barca on transfer deadline day last October, as they wanted nothing less than £20m for the defender.
Garcia, was a youth product of the famous Barcelona's La Masia academy before joining City in 2017, making only 12 appearances in all competitions and started just three games this season for Pep Guardiola's side that won the double this season (Premier League and Carabao Cup).
He made 35 appearances in total for City, with 20 of those coming in the 2019-20 season when he was a regular starter following the exit of legend Vincent Kompany and long-term injury to Aymeric Laporte.
Garcia expressed his desires to leave the Etihad stadium having refused the offer of a new contract last summer.
This would be the second signing for Ronald Koeman team this summer, following the unveiling of Man City all-time record goalscorer Sergio Aguero at the Nou Camp on Monday evening.
Barcelona finished third in the La Liga, seven points behind champions Atletico Madrid, and only won the Copa del Rey this season.
The Blaugrana side are also confident of signing Liverpool's midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer, and have also been linked with Lyon's Memphis Depay.
Internationally, Garcia has made seven caps for Spain's national senior team since his debut last September. He has also been included in Luis Enrique's squad for the Euro 2020 competition despite not having regular game time at City.
