The Man United Vs Liverpool Clash Today Has Been POSTPONED After Protest.

The biggest rivalry/game in history of English football between Manchester United Vs Liverpool has been POSTPONED after an earlier mass protest today at Old Trafford by the Manchester United fans.

According to sources, the game which was meant to have kicked off at 4:30pm, was postponed due to safety and security reasons.

Fans are currently unable to attend games due to the pandemic but they found a way into the stadium, wearing a green-and-gold scarves and also set off flares in the colours of the club’s 1878 formation.

The supporters had followed a protest outside the Lowry Hotel, where the United squad traditionally spend the night before any home match in preparation for games.

There were clashes as hundreds of fans tried to break police lines outside, with officers drawing batons to keep the crowds back and bottles and other projectiles thrown. A line of riot police, backed by horses, pushed the crowds back from the area where the players will enter the stadium.

Just after what should have been the scheduled kick-off time, police succeeded in pushing back the crowds and clearing the Old Trafford forecourt but it was a little bit too late, as the game had been postponed.

An official statement realeased by Manchester United confirmed the game postponement shortly after an initial delay;

"Following discussion between the Police, the Premier League, Trafford Council and the clubs, our match against Liverpool has been postponed due to safety and security considerations around the protest today," said United.

"Discussions will now take place with the Premier League on a revised date for the fixture."

"Our fans are passionate about Manchester United, and we completely acknowledge the right to free expression and peaceful protest.

"However, we regret the disruption to the team and actions which put other fans, staff, and the police in danger. We thank the police for their support and will assist them in any subsequent investigations."

If United had lost the planned game, Manchester City would have won the Premier League title. United are the record 20-time English champions but have not lifted the trophy since 2013.

A statement issued by the Premier League about the postponement of the game also reads:

"This is a collective decision from the police, both clubs, the Premier League and local authorities.

"The security and safety of everyone at Old Trafford remains of paramount importance.

"We understand and respect the strength of feeling but condemn all acts of violence, criminal damage and trespass, especially given the associated Covid-19 breaches.

"Fans have many channels by which to make their views known, but the actions of a minority seen today have no justification.

"We sympathise with the police and stewards who had to deal with a dangerous situation that should have no place in football.

"The rearrangement of the fixture will be communicated in due course."

Both teams would have to play the now postponed game before their final Premier League games of the season on May 23 at 4pm alongside other top-flight games this day.
