PSG Are Crowned Fench Cup CHAMPIONS For The 14th-Time.

Paris Saint-Germain have won the Coupe de France for a record-extending 14th time, following a 2-0 victory over Monaco on Wednesday evening.

PSG have now won the French Cup six times in the last seven seasons having reached the final every year since 2015.

The match which with down at the Stade de France behind closed doors unlike the England's FA Cup final and the Italian Cup final which was being played on the same evening. French President Emmanuel Macron met the players before the game.

Mauro Icardi opened the scoring for Mauricio Pochettino's men in the 19th minute, slotting in from Kylian Mbappe"s pass, after an horrendous error from Monaco defender Axel Disasi, who miscontrolled a simple pass from goalkeeper Radoslaw Majecki and allowed Mbappe to steal the ball.

France forward Kylian Mbappe added the second goal with a delightful chipped finish nine minutes from the end, to seal the victory for PSG. It was the 22-year-old 41st goal of the season.

"We work every day to experience this kind of feeling, reward and recognition," said Mbappe.

"It's the work of a whole group, staff, all the people who work every day for us, the club and of course the supporters who couldn't be there. We think a lot about the fans and this title is for them as well."

The two most prestigious French teams, met for the third time in the final, with PSG winning 1-0 in 2010 and Monaco triumphing by the same score in 1985.

Monaco had already beaten PSG twice in the league this season (3-2, 0-2), but flopped to maintain the dominance this time.

It is PSG's second trophy under former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, following the Trophee des Champions in January.

The Argentine will be expected to build on that silverware, which is his second trophy in his managerial career, although this will for many count as his first major honour.

Manwhile, Monaco continue their wait to win the French Cup for the first time since 1991, and in their first final since 2010 when they were also beaten by PSG.

Niko Kovac's side have however had a positive season and can finish it on a happier note at the weekend by qualifying for the final Champions League slot for the first time since 2018 as they are just two points ahead of Lyon.

They are also not technically out of the running for the league as they sit three points behind Lille 

PSG are now guaranteed at least one major title this season, after crashing out in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League against Man City. 

Lille OSC are still in the driver's seat for the Ligue 1 title entering the season's final day on Sunday.

Defending champions PSG are one point behind leaders Lille as they chase a league and cup double, with hopes of a record-equalling 10th league title.

They visit 16th-placed Brest on Sunday, while Lille are away to mid-table Angers.
