Man City Emerge The 2020/21 Premier League Champions

Manchester City’s wait for a fifth Premier League title is over following Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat at home to Leicester on Tuesday night.

Pep Guardiola’s side had the chance to win the title at home last Saturday when they played Chelsea, blew it away as they were beaten 2-1 by the West London side. 

They had to wait three more days for second place Man United to slip in one of their fixtures this week to finally clinch the title and be confirmed Champions.

The Red Devils are now ten points off the leaders after loss to Leicester with three more games left to conclude the season.

Luke Thomas brilliant volley and Caglar Soyuncu’s header gave Leicester a priceless win at Old Trafford despite Mason Greenwood leveller earlier on.

The result also has huge bearings on the top four race, with Leicester now up to third and eight points clear of fifth-placed West Ham.

While the defeat to Man United, handed City rivals their third Premier League title in four years under manager Pep Guardiola.

It is the seventh time City have finished top of the English top-flight legue, and the fifth in nine years.

Guardiola has now won ten domestic trophies since arriving in Manchester in 2016, and a total of 31 trophies more than any other manager since his time at Barcelona in 2008/09 (12-years). 

"This has been a season and a Premier League title like no other," said the 50-year-old Spaniard.

"This was the hardest one. We will always remember this season for the way we won. I am so proud to be the manager here and of this group of players.

"They are so special. To come through this season, with all the restrictions and difficulties we've faced - and show the consistency we have is remarkable. It is relentless.

"Every single day, they are there, fighting for success, trying always to be better. They have been so, so resilient."

Pep Guardiola could also be adding to the two trophies already won this season, having betean Tottenham to claim the Caraboa Cup last month.

He is set to also win the first Champions League title for Man City on May 29, when they face Chelsea.
