Juventus Re-Appionts Massimiliano Allergri As Manager, Following The Sack Of Andrea Pirlo.

Juventus have confirmed the reappointment of former boss Massimiliano Allegri just hours after parting ways with club legend Andrea Pirlo.

Pirlo who took over surprisingly from Maurizio Sarri in August last year, guided Juve to the Coppa Italia and Suppercoppa Italiana titles, but nearly missed out of qualifying for next season's Champions League.

They finished fourth in Serie A, missing out on the title for the first time in 10 years to Inter Milan, and ended up salvaging a spot in next season's Champions League on the final day of the season, after securing a massive victory against Bologna, and most importantly, Napoli's defeat against Hellas Verona. 

Juve were also knocked out of the Champions League at the last-16 phase for the second time in successive seasons.

The 42-year-old manager played 164 games, and won seven major honours for Juventus during his days as a player from 2011 to 2015, and managed the club's U23s side before assuming the role of first-team head coach in 2020.

He also earned 116 caps for Italy and helped them to win the 2006 World Cup, retiring in 2017 having spent two years in Major League Soccer at New York City FC after leaving Juventus.

A statement on the Juventus website said: "Thanks Andrea. These are the first words that all of us must pronounce at the end of this special experience lived together.

"For the courage, the dedication, the passion with which he demonstrated every day, our thanks go to the 'Maestro', the coach and to Andrea, that really comes from the heart, as well as our good luck for the future that will surely be a wonderful one."

Meanwhile, new manager Max Allegri was formerly in charge of Juventus from 2014-19, winning five successive league titles, four Coppa Italias and reaching the Champions League final twice.

The 53-year-old, had been linked with several top clubs in Europe, as he had been out of job since leaving Juventus in June 2019.

"Now we are ready to begin again with Allegri, to build our future together with his enormous professionalism, his moral strength, with the brilliant ideas of a coach capable of shuffling the cards, both on and off the pitch," said a Juventus statement.

His arrival comes after the departure of Pirlo who led Juve to the Italian Super Cup and Coppa Italia titles, but they were not enough to keep his job.
