Bayern Munich Announces That Julian Nagelsmann Would Take-Over From Hansi Flick As Manager Next Season.

Bayern Munich has announced that Julian Nagelsmann will join the club in the summer from RB Leipzig as the new head coach.

The 33-year-old is set to officially join the Bundesliga champions on July 1 signing a five-year deal, and succeed Hansi Flick at the hot-seat next season.

Hansi Flick had earlier asked Bayern to terminate his contract at the end of the season after several disagreements with sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.

Flick's contract which was originally set to run until 2023 had now been terminated as requested.

Flick has also been linked to take over German national team after it was announced current boss Joachim Low would leave his position as manager at the end of the Euro 2020 this summer.

During Flick's incredible 18 months in charge of the Bavarians, he guided the club to win the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and UEFA Champions League, thus completing the continental treble for the second time in the club's history.

He also led Bayern to win the 2020 UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla, and completing Bayern's ever first sextuple after winning Club World Cup in February 2021 defeating Mexican team Tigres.

He is currently on course for a ninth successive league title this season as well.

 

According to reports, Bayern Munich agreed to pay a world-record $30m including bonuses as compensation to RB Leipzig to release Nagelsmann from his contract.

The deal for Nagelsmann makes him the most expensive coach in the sport's history, overtaking that of Andre Villas-Boas, who cost Chelsea 15 million euros when they prised him away from Porto in 2011, CloudNine Sports understands. 

Red Bull Salzburg boss Jesse Marsch and Ajax boss Erik ten Hag are top in the list of managers to replace Nagelsmann at Leipzig.

This isn't the first time Nagelsmann has been purchased by another club, with RB Leipzig having actually paid Hoffenheim €5m for his services in 2019.

He took RB Leipzig to last season's Champions League semi-finals and they are on course to finish second behind Bayern in the Bundesliga this season.

Highly regarded as one of the best young coaches in Europe, Nagelsmann has been linked to several top club's in Europe, but he turned down a deal to join Tottenham as replacement for the sacked Jose Mourinho.

The newly appointed Bayern Munich coach has only won one trophy to this point and it came at junior level, with his Hoffenheim team winning the Under-19 Bundesliga in 2013/14, before been promoted to coach the senior team at age 28, making him the youngest ever coach in the Bundesliga.

He will turn 34 in July and be Bayern Munich's youngest-ever coach.

Speaking on the appiontment, Bayern president Herbert Hainer said: 

"Julian Nagelsmann stands for a new generation of trainers.

"Despite his young age, he has had an impressive career. We are convinced that with Julian Nagelsmann we will build on the great successes of the past few years.

"I would like to expressly thank Hansi Flick on behalf of FC Bayern. He took over our team in a difficult phase in 2019 and then won six titles, the seventh will hopefully follow soon.

"It will always have a place in the history books of FC Bayern. We wish him all the best for his future."
