Ronaldo Gets The Better Of Messi, As Man United Crashes Out Of The UCL.

Manchester United crashes out of the Champions League group stage following a shock 3-2 defeat away to German side RB Leipzig on Tuesday night.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men who looked to have started the Champions League season well, after been drawn in the so called group of death (Group H), had initially beaten Leipzig 5-0 at Old Trafford last month, and needed just a draw to have advanced to the next round of the competition.

The crucial encounter which went down at the empty Red Bull Arena in Germany, saw Leipzig sealed the deal early with 2 goals inside the first 13 minutes.

Left-back José Tasende opened scoring for Julian Nagelsmann side in just two minutes into the game, and midfielder Amadou Haidara added a second few minutes later to give Leipzig two goals lead going into the break.

The second-half began quiet tensed for both sides, but a Justin Kluivert's strike in the 69th minute made it 3-0 for Leipzig who then had to overcome a late comeback from Manchester United to seal a memorable win.

Bruno Fernandes penalty in the 80th minute gave Manchester United a ray of hope which was amplified after an own goal from defender Ibrahima Konaté through a Paul Pogba's header two minutes later. However, all efforts from United to get an equaliser was futile, as the match ended 3-2 in favor of RB Leipzig.  

The last season's semi finalist top the group H with 12 points, while PSG finish second with 10 points, Man United in third with 9 points and Istabul Basaksehir in fourth with 4 points.

United boss Solskjaer who is currently Under-fire, pointed out that making a come back from behind in the Champions League isn't an easy task, even as the United team have been known from fighting back to get results this season, with the recent been getting wins over Southampton and West Ham United in the Premier League.

"We started too late. Great spirit and comeback again. It's different to the Premier League, you can't give a good team like Leipzig a three-goal lead and expect to come back," Solskjaer said.

"Of course you can't say we were good enough, we weren't. Today we were close but we knew we had to defend crosses and balls into the box and we just couldn't clear them."

"Loosing away at Instabul, that defeat; that’s where you look at those points missed. They’re the points that cost us getting into the next round, or the knock-out phase, no doubt about that.”

Meanwhile in Group G, Cristiano Ronaldo gets the better of arch-rival Lionel Messi for the first time since his move to Turin in 2018. 

The duo was expected to have met earlier this year in their early-campaign group stage fixture in Turin but Ronaldo was ruled out of the game after he contracted Covid-19.

Ronaldo scored twice from the spot to hand Juventus a 3-0 win over Barcelona at Camp Nou, and secure a top spot in the group with 15 points, same point as Barcelona who finished second, Dynamo Kiev in third with four points and Ferencváros bottom with 1 point.

It was a humiliating defeat for Barcelona at home as the La Liga giants' problems continue under new boss Ronald Koeman. The Catalans are 9th on the league table with just 4 wins in their first 10 matches.

However, both Juventus and Barcelona have sealed a place in the 2020/21 knockout stages of the Champions League, alongside other teams like, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Leipzig, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla, Lazio, PSG, Porto.
