Man City Is Set To Sign Ruben Dias From Benfica, After Sunday's Disappointing Defeat To Leicester City.

Benfica have confirmed the sale and signing of defender Ruben Dias to Manchester City for an initial fee of €68million (£61.9 million), with an additional €3.6million (£3.3 million) in potential add-ons.

The both clubs have been in serious negotiations over the past few days, with reports in Portugal suggesting a deal had been agreed between both parties. 

According to reports, the Portuguese centre-back, has agreed to a five-year deal at Man City, which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until June 2025.

The deal would involve defender Nicolas Otamend who would be heading to Benfica for a fee of €15 million (£13.7 million), with the Argentine defender expected to sign a three-year deal until June 2023.

However, despite official confirmation yet to be seen by the Premier League side, Benfica had already released an official club statement on Sunday confirming that both deals are expected to be completed in the coming days.

Man City manager Pep Guardiola have been on a serious want for a right-sided centre-back, after failing to replace Vincent Kompany which saw his team lost the Premier League title last season, finish second and 18 points behind champions Liverpool.

Guardiola rather pefer to use Fernandinho at centre-half last season, while first-choice Aymeric Laporte was injured for most of the campaign.

This season alone Pep Guardiola saw his side lost scandalously at home to Leicester City on Sunday evening.

Although new signing Nathan Ake scored late on in the defeat to Leicester, but it was a poor defensive performance that gave away three penalties and conceeding five goals.

Riyad Mahrez had given Man City a lead over his former team but Leicester had it level by halftime.

Jamie Vardy’s hat trick included two of three Leicester City penalties as he became the player to score two league hattricks against a Guardiola team.

James Maddison scored a spectacular goal in a substitute performance, and Youri Tielemans converted a Maddison-won penalty to secure all three points for the Foxes who  goes atop the table in joining Everton with 9 points from three games.

The defeat was the first time Pep Guardiola has seen his team concede five goals at home, and also the first time a team has scored three penalties in Premier League game.

It is also the first time Manchester City have conceded five goals in a home game since February 2003.

CloudNine Sports understands that, Ruben Dias who is one of the most highly-rated young centre-backs in Europe will now fly to Manchester to complete a medical, and end the Citizens chase for Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly and Sevilla's Jules Kounde.

Internationally, the 23-year-old, had made 19 caps for his country Portugal, and was named man of the match in Portugal’s 2019 Nations League final victory against the Netherlands.

He is expected to be made available for Manchester City's trip to Elland Road to face Leeds United on Saturday afternoon.
