Luis Suarez Is Set To Join Rivals Atletico Madrid From Barcelona.
Barcelona have confirmed on Wednesday, that striker Luis Suarez would be leaving the Spanish capital to join La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid.
The Uruguayan striker had been left furious, after been told earlier last month that he was not in the team plans for the 2020/21 season by new coach Ronald Koeman.
This prompted Suarez who still have a year left on his contract he signed with Catalan club in 2016, begin talks with his legal team over the early termination of his contract.
The 33-year-old has now decided to take a pay-cut in his salary to join Deigo Simeone side on a free transfer, although Atletico will later have to pay Barca a nominal fee of no more than €6million for the transfer which will be based on a number of performance-related variables, such as Champions League qualification.
The deal is expected to be for two years, with Atletico Madrid, stating the deal is subject to a medical examination.
"FC Barcelona would like to publicly express their gratitude to Luis Suarez for his commitment and dedication and wishes him all the best for the future," said a statement released by Barcelona on Wednesday night.
Thank you for the goals, Luis!
The club thanked Suarez for his wonderful time at the Nou Camp, and said a farewell event would take place for the striker at 12:30pm CEST on Thursday, before a remote press conference.

Suarez recently became the third all-time highest goalscorer in Barca's history with 198 goals, 97 assists in 283 appearances just behind Leo Messi and César who are first and second respectively.
The move to the Wanda Metropolitano stadium, would see him end a six exciting seasons at Barcelona, a club he joined for £74million from Liverpool in the summer of 2014.
