Cristiano Ronaldo Looks Forward To Break Ali Daei's (109) International Goal Record, After Scoring His 101st Goals For Portugal.

Cristiano Ronaldo can't stop creating history as he scores his 101st international goals for Portugal in the Nations League 2-0 win over 10-man Sweden on Tuesday night.

Veteran Sweden midfielder Gustav Svensson was sent off just before half-time for collecting a second yellow card, and from the resulting free-kick, the 35-year-old superstar Ronaldo opened scoring with a sensational free kick.

The goal sees him become the second football player in history after Iranian legend Ali Daei to score a century of international goals, and also the first European player to score 100 international goals.

It was his 57 career free-kicks goals, with 10 of them coming for Portugal.

Ronaldo then added a second goal for his team on the night in the 72nd minute after firing in a stunning strike from outside the box to pass the 100th goal landmark, and making it his 24th brace for Portugal.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo is now just eight goals behind Ali Daei, who holds the world-record for most international goals (109) for his country. The Iran's striker had achieved that feat during his playing days from 1993 to 2006.

The Portuguese captain told reporters after the game: 

“I knew I had left a mark at this stadium and I knew that, if I played, I would leave a mark again. I don’t care about provocations.

“I managed to beat this milestone of 100 goals and now (I’ll go) for the record. It’s step-by-step. I am not obsessed because I believe the records come in a natural way,” 

“What I have done in my career speaks for itself. No, I have to prove nothing to anyone, and when I have to prove it, I show it on the pitch.

Speaking about his future in the game, Ronaldo told Reuters: 

“The future, only God knows. I am happy to play with these young players and I am enjoying a lot this moment both individually and collectively."

CloudNine Sports understands that the result for Portugal, means that the Nations League defending champions now have two wins from their opening two fixtures, and are top of the table ahead of France, Sweden and Croatia.

Ronaldo had missed the opener 4-1 victory against 2018 World Cup finalist Croatia on Saturday due to a toe injury, but made a return to the team line-up for the first time this year against Sweden.

The former Man United and Real Madrid star scored his first international goal against Greece in the Euro 2004 tournament, and became Portugal's all-time highest goal scorer after scoring in a friendly game against Cameroon in 2014.

He had won the Euro 2018 championship and the Nations League in 2019 with Portugal
