Bayern Munich Are Crowned Champions Of Europe For The Sixth Time, Following Victory Over PSG.

Bayern Munich have emerged Champions of Europe for the sixth-time (1974, 1975, 1976, 2001, 2013, and now 2020) following a well tightly contested victory over Paris St-Germain on Sunday night in Lisbon.

The German giants became the first team in history to win every game in a single Champions League campaign, and also became the first unbeaten side to lift the tilte since Manchester United in 2007/08 season,  as they defeat French side PSG 1-0 at the Estadio da Luz in Portugal, Lisbon.  

French winger Kingsley Coman who started his career as a youth for PSG before joining Bayern on 2015, made the difference in the tensed match which was played behind closed doors by scoring the only goal via a powerful header in the 59th minute from Joshua Kimmich's cross to hand Bayern Munich the well deserved title.

The victory for the Bavarians sees them join Barcelona as the only teams to win the treble for the second time since 2013, and dashed the Pariians hopes of winning the title for the first time.

It was PSG best-ever Champions League season by reaching the final for the first time.

Bayern join last year's winners, Liverpool, as six-time champions of Europe, only behind AC Milan and Real Madrid, with seven and 13 titles, respectively.

CloudNine Sports had reported on April, that Hansi Flick was made permanent manager of Bayern Munich, having initially been appointed as interim manager in November last year to take over a seeming dying squad under former manager Niko Kovac after an humiliating  5-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt and with Bayern having dropped out of the top three in the Bundesliga.

Flick has instantly led the team to an unbeaten 2020 in all competitions (21 consecutive wins in 30 games), and winning his 3rd trophy of the season following the Bundesliga and German Cup double despite the a two-month break in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 55-year-old manager expressed his excitement of the teams sensational transformation after the truimph on Sunday;

“I am proud of this team,”  

“When I started in November I read the headlines: ‘No need to fear or respect Bayern Munich anymore’, ‘The team is awful.”

“But the development of my team since then has been sensational, and something you wish for as a coach. We made maximum use of everything. It is not easy to win three titles. It was hard work,”  the former German assistant coach added.

“The only thing that was missing was the fans. Maybe in the future we can have games with fans again. This sport deserves it.”

Club captain and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer who won the Man of the Match also told reporters after the game;

"It is unbelievable. It has hardly been more fun than now playing for this team,"

"Hansi Flick has a huge share in this, the whole coaching staff. It was a team effort by everyone," said Neuer, who made several big saves to deny PSG attacking stars Neymar and Mbappé a goal in the final.

"We wanted it and we deserve it. It is a dream for all of us."
