The 2020-21 Premier League Season To Resume September 12, 2020 And End May 23, 2021.

The Premier League shareholders today agrees to kick-start the new 2020-21 season on Saturday September 12. 

The league which initially use to resume in August like the previous seasons after it has ended in May, usually allows teams to have at least three-month break from competitive action, but that will be impossible ahead of the new 2020-21 season.

Premier League clubs will now have a six-weeks break to prepare for the start of next season, despite having some clubs who are still in competition for the Champions League and Europa League which resumes in August.

According to reports, the Premier League is considering handing a grace period to clubs still involved in European competitions like Man City, Chelsea, Man United and Wolves - meaning they may not play their first domestic fixture until 30 days after their final European match this season.

Having resumed the current campaign on June 17 after it was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, the season will end on Sunday, July 26, with the FA Cup final between Arsenal Vs Chelsea will be played on August 1.

Liverpool emerged champions the league in late June with seven games to spare, and were officially crowned champions after their last home game of the season on Wednesday night following a thrilling 5-3 victory against Chelsea.

The Reds would play their last game of the season away to Newcastle.

Both Chelsea and Manchester United need just a point in their final game on Sunday to secure a Champions League spot. 

Chelsea host Wolves at Stamford Bridge, while Man United play away to Leicester City at the King Power staduim.

Three clubs will be relegated/promoted to and from the Championship, with Norwich City being the first to drop. Two more teams will drop on Sunday, as Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Watford are all very much fighting to retain their place at the top of table.

Leeds United who won the championship title, have been promoted alongside West Brom to the Premier League next season, while Brentford, Fulham, Cardiff City and Swansea would fight for the remaining one promotion spot via the play-off, with the final set for Tuesday August 4.

In order give enough time for players involved in the postponed Euro 2020 which is set to begin on June 11, 2021, the final round of matches for the new 2020-21 season would be played on  May 23, 2021.

The new fixture list set to be unveiled weeks before the action restarts, as discussions is still ongoing with the FA and EFL regarding the dates for all domestic competitions.
